Inspiration

Minibusses at Night in Mong Kok, Hong Kong

For @passionpassport‘s #PPInTheNow challenge // I had just finished work for the day and was passing through a sea of rush-hour commuters in Mong Kok, one of Hong Kong’s busiest districts. Although I walked this street and boarded these red minibusses every day, something about the controlled chaos of this particular scene made me stop and get my camera ready. As a local photographer, I always seek to capture the traditional and iconic elements of this city — the neon lights, the street hawkers, and even those buses. Many people focus on Hong Kong’s stunning skyscrapers, but those don’t give me the same sense of belonging as these objects and the culture surrounding them. Under threat by urbanization and governmental policy, they may soon be lost to the memories I can create of them, like this one.
