We were preparing for a five-day hike, and this was our introduction to the landscapes that lay ahead. Along the way we met forever friends; rang in the new year with a group of Argentinians and bottles of pisco sour; and when we were famished at the end of the hike, some pilots treated us to a night of free food and drinks.”
