Ah, Los Angeles — the City of Angels.

As the second-largest city in the United States, LA is heaven for photographers — it features urban streets, palm-tree-lined avenues, mountains, oceanfront neighborhoods, a downtown city skyline that comes alive at night, and so much more.

These nine Instagrammers have taken full advantage of the city they call home and dedicated their Instagram feeds to all that LA stands for. Get to know a bit more about these popular photographers here.

Three favorite spots around the city:

Venice, Downtown LA, and any beach

What he loves about photographing LA:

I like really mundane, ordinary subjects and places. I feel as if these things go unnoticed most often because everyone wants to look at something spectacular. You forget how important even the most trivial things in your life truly are. I’m really trying to get into lifestyle and street photography, too. I think everyone in LA is interesting in their own way. It’s the people who really tell the story of this city.”

Three favorite spots around the city:

The Japanese restaurant Yamashiro in the Hollywood Hills, Chinatown, and Broadway

What he loves about photographing LA:

“I love the diversity of the people in every part of the city. I love the light that explodes through the buildings at sunrise. I love the duality of the coastline and the downtown streets, and I love walking those streets to find interesting ways to create a photo using all the crevices and alleyways. But above all, I love how grand the skyline is and how beautiful the city looks at night.”

Three favorite spots around the city:

Griffith Park, Kenneth Hahn Rec Park, and Angeles National Forest

What he loves about photographing LA:

I really enjoy shooting the landscapes and cityscapes of LA. And, I love photographing in great weather. Sometimes I’ll come back to the same spot a dozen times just to get the right light or prefect cloud coverage.”

Three favorite spots around the city:

Downtown LA, Venice Beach, and Broadway

What he loves about photographing LA:

“I love the dramatic light. It took me a while to get used to the rather harsh Southern California sunlight — I had to figure out how to work with it. But once I did, I came to really love it. And, of course, the predictably warm weather makes for pleasant shooting conditions, even though in the summer it can get unbearably hot sometimes. That’s when I’ll head to Venice to shoot!”

I love photographing LA because there’s so much going on that it’s actually hard to keep up!”

What he loves about photographing LA:

I love that LA seems to always be changing — the culture, the people, the light. It’s a sprawling place with lots to discover at any time of the year.”

Three favorite spots around the city:

Lincoln Park, DTLA, and Venice Beach

What he loves about photographing LA:

“I love the LA photography community, and the vibes of the city. It’s such a diverse place that contains the grit of a big city, stunning mountains, and beautiful beaches all within reach. It’s hard not to be inspired.”

Three favorite spots around the city:

Griffith Observatory, Kenneth Hahn Park, and Downtown LA from above

What he loves about photographing LA:

I love photographing LA because it’s a beautiful city and I love living here. It’s fun to shoot during the day and at night, although I do love long-exposure shots, so I might prefer night. I think the buildings in DTLA look amazing, and it’s neat to see how the skyline has changed over the years.”

Kimberly Genevieve (@kimgenevieve)

Three favorite spots around the city:

West Hollywood, Malibu, and Palm Springs

What she loves about photographing LA:

I love that the SoCal sky is always blue and sunny; it makes for the best backdrop and for amazing lighting! And, how can you resist those cotton-candy sunsets?”
