This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day in Canada and the States, so this week’s Instagram challenge is all about #PPNurture!

The word “mother” is almost universally synonymous with dependability, protection, and nurturing. For this theme, show us what it and “nurture” mean to you, and feel free to get creative with your interpretation. Maybe it’s a comfort dish that reminds you of her, maybe it’s a life lesson she imparted upon you, or perhaps it’s a portrait of her herself!

We’ll be joined by guest judges @magbrinik and @wesleytaylor who can’t wait to see your entries. Head to their feeds for inspiration, and follow the steps below to share:

Guidelines:

  1. Post or re-post photos/videos according to your interpretation of the theme between Tuesday, May 9th and 11:59am EST on Sunday, May 14th;*
  2. Tag @passionpassport and #PPNurture in your caption (if in the comments, we may miss it);
  3. Tell us a story with your caption, sharing any backstory, interesting details surrounding the circumstance, and/or how it relates to the theme; and
  4. Check the sample below and get creative with your entries!

*NOTE: Entries must be posted or re-posted (i.e. you cannot simply ‘tag’ an older photo/video) from a public account during the challenge period. Those posted from private accounts and/or posted outside of the challenge period will NOT be considered eligible for feature.

We’ll announce the winner and honorable mentions Monday, May 15th on our Instagram feed based on the guest judges’ scoring of Quality of Image, Quality of Caption, and Creativity/Interpretation of the Theme.

Mother Hugging Daughter and Laughing in Chimaltenango, Guatemala
Photo by: @isoscelesclambake Chimaltenango, Guatemala

Doña María is a skilled weaver and utilizes a foot loom — typically reserved for men — to weave her intricate huipiles and textiles as a master artisan. Her daughter Melani was an absolute spitfire too. She raced around the house, showing off her new kite and drawings. I planned to get a few portraits of Doña Maria, but Melani immediately ran to get in the shots as well, posing excitedly and prompting a wave of laughter between mother and daughter. @passionpassport #PPNurture
